Experience both athletic challenge and scenic beauty on the 18 miles long “Vulkan-Genuss Hegau” mountain bike trail. The route leads through the diverse Hegau region with its striking volcanic mountains, ancient castles, bizarre rock formations, and expansive river landscapes. Short, steep climbs alternate with flat sections, making the tour appealing to both ambitious athletes and leisure cyclists.
A special highlight: on June 25, 2017, the UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships took place here – on the same trails where the world champions competed at the time. Those who ride the route are immersed in the atmosphere of international competition venues and can follow in the footsteps of the pros.
Along the way, spectacular panoramic views of the Hegau volcanoes, the Hohentwiel, and the river landscapes invite you to take short breaks. The route runs away from busy roads, offering a natural cycling experience. Despite some challenging sections, the route is easily manageable, allowing recreational athletes to enjoy the beauty of the region.

A detour to the Baroque church of St. Peter and Paul in Hilzingen is well worth it for those interested in architecture and culture. At mile 12, a beautiful barbecue area invites you to take a break. At mile 8.5, the Laurentiushof offers refreshments. Enjoy a hearty snack here with a magnificent view that stretches as far as the Alps on a clear day.
Along the way, panoramic views of the Hohentwiel, the volcanic mountains of the Hegau, and the idyllic river landscapes reward every turn of the pedals. The route runs mainly away from busy roads and offers a natural, undisturbed riding experience. A must for mountain bike fans who want to combine sport, nature, and enjoyment.
Wegbeschreibung
The starting point for the tour is the Landesgartenschau car park, also known as “Festplatz Offwiese.” Leave the car park, passing the motorhome disposal station on the access road to the car park, cross Schaffhauserstraße and follow the small river Aach upstream. Shortly afterwards, leave this section and cross between Hohentwiel and Staufen, where the first climb awaits.
Now the route climbs steadily through meadows and forests until you reach Duchtlingen. Here, take Tannenbühlstraße until you turn left into Hegaustraße.
A few meters after crossing the L190, you are back on the long World Cup route, which you have shortened from just under 31 miles to 19.5 miles.
The route now continues to Hilzingen, where a visit to the baroque church is particularly worthwhile. Here, you cross the federal highway and head via Dietlishof towards Heilsberg, the local mountain of the citizens of Gottmadingen. Gravel and forest paths now take you back towards the highway and through Dellenhau, past the Singen forest cemetery and back to the starting point in Singen.
